Once you've taken stock in yourself you need to identify what career would best suit you and that you'd enjoy doing, this is where research comes into play. Taking a trip to the bookstore is an option, researching on the Internet is another, but the best way is to talk to a few people that are in the career that you want. This will be recent unique insight into what doing that job is really like and it's often something that's difficult to encapsulate in a book or webpage. An additional benefit to talking to people that are ready in the industry that you want to be in and that is creating a network or contacts. More than 50% of the jobs that are available never make it to job posting externally and are often filled by a networked referral. Knowing people will get you through the door but it's your character that will keep you inside.

Thinking creatively can be an important part of leading the career you really want. Setting yourself apart from the competition by having a relevant credential that others don't or being more current than the competition is will benefit you. Even the last point of networking yourself will usually require little bit of creativity in order to meet people you don't know.

By understanding yourself, creating a network in your chosen field and thinking outside the box you will be miles ahead of those that are competing with you. With the employment at each one of these points you said yourself further and further apart from others and it's all about standing out from the crowd and trying to get the job that you really want.
